Dear High Achiever,

I want to congratulate you on your achievements. You have been producing great results.

However, we have found some interesting paradoxes. The very traits that have helped high achievers in succeeding are preventing them from being great managers and even greater leaders. We have identified seven such traits.

It is possible that you have some of these traits that stop you from moving into the next stage of your growth as an achiever—which is to be a great manager and leader of people. Take this test to find out.

Here are these 7 traits.
How well are you compensating for them?

Check how often you perform these functions.

1. High achievers know their purpose and role in the team and hence do not need anybody’s help in setting their goals; but most employees do need help in clarifying goals and objectives.

1. I help my people clarify their goals and objectives I create an atmosphere of trust where it is safe for everybody to admit their needs.
Never      Always

2. High achievers are highly motivated. They do not need supervision but most employees do. So achievers fail to provide supervision and support to help the employees meet the objectives.

2. I provide supervision and support for my people to meet their goals and objectives.
Never      Always

3. High achievers use intuition to make decisions and it is hard to replicate that in the employees. Actually, most employees need a structure and a system to help them make decisions.

3. I provide a structure and a system to help my people make decisions.
Never      Always

4. High achievers believe that profit is the end result and people are resources to help achieve that goal. Unfortunately in such an environment, people feel used and the morale suffers. People do not buy in to the vision of the company and perform poorly.

4. I put people first and still focus on results so my people feel important and they have high morale, buy into my vision and perform well.
Never      Always

5. High achievers make decisions quickly and implement ideas immediately. Most employees do not feel that they have the authority to make decisions and need guidance in implementing ideas.

5. I create a safe environment by giving adequate authority and guidance so they can make decisions quickly.
Never      Always

6. High achievers are quick to criticize and speak their mind. Most people need to be nurtured and encouraged.

6. I nurture and encourage my people to gain long term productivity. I praise in public.
Never      Always

7. High achievers have high self-esteem and hence take failures in their stride. Most people do not have a high self-esteem and need to be given avenues to succeed in a step wise manner.

7. I give opportunities to succeed and set reachable goals. I avoid blaming so my people feel encouraged to take risks.
